Tournament #115

That last tournament sucked so playing another...

Pick up 9/9 in early position, raise to $40, 2 callers. Flop is 7/10/2, I raise from $40 to $120 but get re-raised all-in. Pretty sure the guy has a flush draw, not willing to risk everything on 9/9, so I lay it down. Sitting on $1300 now. Limp with 8/4 in the SB and hit a pair on the flop. 3 diamonds though and I bet every step, finally forcing a fold when no more diamonds come. Up to $1500. Next hand I've got A/9 and raise to $90, one caller. 9 on the flop and other guy bets $270, I raise him all-in and he calls. Turns over 9/2. WTF. He gets no help, I bust him and move to $2700. A/9 again on next hand, raised off of it. A/10 very next hand, drop a couple hundred as my river bluff goes nowhere. Down to $2200. A/9 wins me $400 with an A on the flop, up to $2350. Blinded down to $1800, gotta start looking for all-ins. All-in for $1840 with A/9, uncalled, move to $2100. All-in for $1900 with K/Q, called by 10/10. No help for me though and I'm busted in 23rd place. That sucked. Very frustrating right now, I can't seem to ever hit any big hands.

Tournament #114

Chores are done, ready to relax with another 45-man tourney...

Already down $110 thanks to blinds and a missed raise with A/J. Another $200 gone just trying to get to a flop. Lots of crazy betting around me, I need to back down and just wait for a big hand. As soon as I typed that, I got A/Q and the guy in front of me pushed all-in for $1200, just enough to cover me. I called. He's got A/K. K/10/8 on the flop and I'm way behind. Blank on the turn but a J on the river and I double up to $2450! We lost a ton of people bang-bang-bang and we're down to 26, me in 11th. 4 more gone, we're down to 22, me in 13th, still at $2450. Raise to $100 with A/8 with 2 callers and pick up $725 when I flop a pair of 8s. Up to $2800. Several more gone, we're down to 16, me in 8th with $2700. In the BB with A/Q, I'm raised all-in. Doesn't feel right so I lay it down. Dude had me covered - nearly $3700 - gotta figure he had A/K or K/K or something. Down to $1700 as my pair of Qs turns into the other guy having a flush. Misplayed that, should have raised all-in on the flop instead of just doubling his bet. Blinded down to $1350, all-in is my only play now. All-in for that $1350 with A/K, I get called by A/J. Naturally he hits a J on the turn and I'm busted. 11th place. Not much I could do there.

FINISH: 11th place

Tournament #113

OK, back in the mood after watching some WSOP on ESPN so here we go with another 45-man...

Card-dead early so I'm doing lots of folding. We're playing at an incredibly slow pace as several players are taking the max time to make EVERY SINGLE decision. Ridiculous. Finally get something worth playing, with K/K in the BB. Raise to $120 (4xBB) and get 2 callers. Flop comes with 3 spades (I have K spades) so I throw $180 in and get a caller. Nothing on the turn and river, me betting $180 each step and called each time. He's got nothing though and I take down a $1500 pot to move to $2300, 15th of 27. Back to card dead as I've gotten 9/2, 9/3, 9/3, 9/5, and some other 9/x hand. Pick up J/J on the button with everybody folding to me, raise to $500, enough to put BB all-in. No call, win $250, up to $2000. Hey, looky there - 9/2 AGAIN. All in for $1725 with A/J and the BB re-raises all-in. He turns over A/Q. 7/4/3/6 on the board and I look to be dead. But a J on the river and I double up to $3600! Back to normal with the next hand, though, as I pick up 9/4. I seriously must have had 9/x at least a dozen times already. Next hand is 9/8. Sigh... Pick up A/9 - a 9 worth playing! - and limp for $150. Flop is J/10/8 and I call $300. Turn is a 9, both of us check. River is an ace, bet is $300, I raise to $600 and get called. My 2-pair is good, $2200 pot moves me to $4600, 6th of 18. A bunch of folds for me, we lose 5 players, and we're down to 13, me at $3800. Missed bluff, down to $3200. $1600 mistake as I misread the board and bet at something I didn't have. Stupid, haven't done something like that in a long, long time. Limp for $200 from the SB with K/J, 2 others. Flop is K/Q/x, so I push all-in for my last $1000, one caller. He's got A/10. No further help for him and I more than double to $2800, 6th of 12. This one hand after folding 9/10 to two all-ins. Of course, that hand had J/9/9 on the flop. D'oh! Folded K/9 instead of going all-in, would have won the hand. A/10 next hand, all-in for $2100, uncalled, move to $2800. In the BB for $400, I've got 7/2. Flop is 7/5/5 so I take a chance and push all-in. Immediate call by big stack and he turns over A/A. Busted in 10th place. Can't complain too much on this one - could have been busted way earlier and getting 9/x literally every third hand didn't give me much of a chance.

Tournament #112

That last one went pretty quickly so gonna try another tonight...

Slow start to this one, have seen only 1 of 10 flops. Am down to $1430 but still in fine shape. Blinded down to $1340. Raise to $120 with a caller in front of me, I raise to $600 with A/A. One guy re-re-raises me and I push all-in. He calls and shows 10/10. No help for him and I more than double to $2900, 10th of 26. Blinded down to $2450. Limp with A/6 suited and pick up a flush draw on the flop. Check it all the way to the river and the other guy had nothing as well. Up to $3000. Blinded down to $2800, 9th of 14. Pick up a nice pot with K/Q when I pair my K. Up to $3400. Blinded down to $3000. Limped for $200 with K/Q then pushed all-in when a K hit the flop, uncalled. Up to $3600. Blinded down to $2900, 10th of 12. Amazing how fast it goes when you've only got 6 at your table. Down to $2200, I decide to raise all-in with A/4 from the BB. One guy had limped and he decides to call - and has 6/6. Questionable play, to be sure. Pays off, though, when all I get is a 4 on the flop and nothing else. 11th place.

Tournament #111

Time for another 45-man...

Holding K/8 in the BB with 2 other players, flop comes A/3/A. No bets, turn is a K. I bet $60, calls all around. River is an ace giving me a full house. Bet $120, raised to $240 and called. Raiser turns over the case ace giving him quads :( Down to $1160. Dropped $400 with A/9. Raised to $100, then called $150, pre-flop. Flop came Q/9/5, bet $250 and was raised to $500. Something felt fishy so folded. Down to $800, looking for all-in. All-in for $775 with A/K, uncalled, up to $850. Blinds at $25/50, so not in DIRE shape just yet. All-in for $750 with A/5 suited, no callers, up to $900. Blinds now $50/100 so only play is all-in. All-in for $750 with A/Q, called by 3/3 (!) 10/9/K/8/9 board gives me no help. Busted in 21st place.

Tournament #110

Can't let that last result end my night sooo...

Nice start as I turn a J with A/J and river a K to get 2-pair. $440 pot moves up to $1800. Miss on a couple hands then pick up $800 when I turn a 7 holding A/7 as everybody else misses flush draws. Up to $2100. Miss with A/10 and 7/7 and I'm down to $1600. No big deal, blinds still at $25/50. Miss a flush draw, down to $1375. All-in for $1350 with 10/10, I get a re-raise all-in and another caller. The re-raise turns over K/9 (WTF) and the caller has A/Q. Neither guy gets any help, I river another 10, and triple up to $4100! Now 5th of 29. A/10 suited with 3 other players. 2 hearts (not my suit) with K/Q on the flop. Checks all around and I get a free look at the turn - a J! The straight gives me an $1800 pot and I'm over $5000, 4th of 27. Take a big hit when I river a pair of Ks with K/10 - and the other guy hit a flush while holding 8/2. Down to $2900. That one hurt. Blinded down to $2600, 14th of 14. Drop $600 chasing a flush with A/5 and am now down to $2000. All-in for $1700 with A/Q, uncalled, up to $2000. Just watched a guy with $13000 go broke in about 5 minutes by going all-in over and over and over and over. Weird. All-in for that $2000 with K/6 after a K on the flop. I'm called by J/2 (J on the flop 2). 6 on the turn and K on the river and I've got a full house and double to $3600. All-in for that $3600 on the very next hand with A/Q, uncalled, up to $4000, 8th of 12. All-in for $3550 with A/K, called by A/Q and 9/9. 9 on the flop and I'm dead. Gotta really question the guy calling all-in with 9/9 and two guys already in in front of him. Busted in 12th place. Made the right play, I deserved to win that hand.

Tournament #109

Back from the ballpark, feeling good and ready for another 45-man...

Dropped $200 early on with A/10. Flop came 9/7/x giving me four to a flush. Turn was a J giving me a straight draw too. But a K on the river kills me. Made half of it back next hand with Q/J when I turned a J. Sitting on $1430. Raised to $80 with A/K suited and get re-raised all-in after a loooong pause. I call and the guy turns over A/Q. Flop comes with a Q but 2 hearts giving me a flush draw. Turn is a K and justice prevails. I doubled to $2900 and basically busted the other guy. Pretty much held steady at $2900 before giving back $200 on a missed bluff. Currently 11th of 23. Card dead, I'm blinded down to $2200. Push all-in with A/Q for $2200, uncalled, back to $2400, 10th of 19. Just folded 2/2 to a raise and all-in in front of me. The flop? 2/K/2. Folded quads. How awesome. Would have tripled up. And just folded a set of 5s. All-in for $2200 with A/J suited, I'm called by K/Q. Q/10 on the flop leaves me rooting for him to hit 2-pair on the turn. He does and I've got a straight! The river, however, is another K, and he sucks out a full house on me. WTF. And then he has the gall to act like he made a great play. Whatever. Yeah, let's learn something from this one - yeah, right. I'm so irritated I don't even know what I placed, have to e-mail myself the tournament history. 15th place, it turns out. Man, I'm really ticked about this one.

Tournament #108

OK, time to break the streak and get back on track! Another 45-man, here we go...

Nice start as I pick up A/K on the third hand. Q/J rainbow on the flop gives me a straight draw, which I complete on the turn. A third spade on the river has me a bit nervous but my $600 bet goes uncalled and I pick up $1000. Up to $2100. Limped with 5/5 and flop comes 6/2/5, 2 diamonds. Guy in front of me bets the pot ($300) and myself and another guy call. Turn is a Qc and first guy pushes all-in. I call. He turns over Q/6. River ace doesn't help him and I bust him while moving to $4600, 2nd of 29. Blinded down a bit but a couple small pots and I'm right back to $4600. Gutlessly fold A/6 to a small all-in that I would have won. Would have pushed me to nearly $6000. Weak play on my part. Lost about $1200 with A/7 when a guy hit runner-runner to make a flush. Bad play all around on his part as he had 9/5 pre-flop and just hit a miracle. Fortunately, I got out without TOO much damage. Down to $3200, 9th of 20. All-in for $3000 with A/K, uncalled, back to $3200. Some blinds and a missed flush draw and I'm just under $2200, 12th of 12. All-in for that $2200 with A/A and get one caller. He's got JJ and gets now help as I more than double to $4900. Back to healthy in a hurry. Uncalled all-in with K/K and I'm up to $5100. A/7 in the BB, 2 others. Flop is 7/8/3. $800 on the flop, called. Turn is another 7. Another $800, another call. River is a 3, giving me a full house. $1200, also called. I pick up a $6900 pot and move to $8000 and make the final table. Drop $1000 with A/J, down to $7000 as we start the final table. We lose a guy and are down to 8 with a super-short stack still left. I used K/6 to bust that short stack, picking up a $2900 post and am now up to $9000. We're into the money - the no-cash streak is over! Blinded down to $6300, then limp with A/5 before folding it to a big raise. Naturally that flop was 5/3/5 and I could have probably doubled. ARGH. We lose another guy and I'm now the short stack with $4100 and 6 players left. All-in for $4000 with K/K, guy to my left re-raises all-in and we're both called. K/6 to my left, J/J to my right. Way in front after flop and turn but a J on the river and I'm busted in 6th. Made the exact right play, should be sitting on $12000 right now and instead I'm busted.

Tournament #107

OK, still time for another try tonight...

More insanity on the first hand of this one as four guys go all-in pre-flop - A/A, A/K, 8/10, and A/9. Justice prevails and A/A quadruples to $6000. Nothing happening for me early on as I've had 7/2, 7/3, 7/4 and 7/4 in the first seven hands. In the BB with 4/5, I call a minimum raise to $40 along with 5 other players. Flop comes 3/6/7 - jackpot! I get 2 callers with $60 on the flop and then one caller on the turn (9) with $400. River is an ace and the other guy calls my all-in and he's got A/6. I more than double to $2900. Very next hand, I fold 5/6 and end up folding a full house :( Dropped $300 chasing flush and straight draws, down to $2600, 8th of 32. Took down $600 with A/8 suited and move to $3000, 7th of 28. Very next hand I've got 8/9 in the SB and limp. Flop a pair of 8s and bet $100 every step, eventually forcing the other guy to fold. Move to $3300. A/8 and Q/Q and I'm up to $4100. Split a small pot with A/10, move to $4300, 2nd of 25. Gave up $2800 with A/Q. Flop came A/10/A with 2 diamonds. Turn J, river 6. Bet $450 twice, raised to $1000 both times. Other guy had A/K. Not a great play by me but really put him on a flush draw and not another ace. And certainly not A/K. All-in for $1450 with A/8, uncalled, move to $1700. Raise from a short-stack in front of me and I've got A/Q, so I raise all-in. Shorty is the only caller and he's got A/5. Flop has a Q in it and he's dead. I basically double to $2500, 15th of 23 and out of the woods for the moment. A couple walks and an uncalled all-in with A/Q and I'm up to $2800. Blind are $100/200. Blinded down to $2300 and then pushed off a straight draw (hard to call all-in with just one card to come on a straight draw...) so now down to $1550 and looking for an all-in again. Missed a chance to triple up when I folded K/9 to a raise and an all-in in front of me. JJ vs AA there but a 9 on the river would have won me the hand. Next hand, I call all-in with A/J and the other guy has K/K. He turns a set that gives me a straight draw but I get no more help. Busted in 14th. One misplay with A/Q killed me in this one. Card-dead after that.

Tournament #106

Have had a few days to cool off since the stupidity of that last tournament and am ready to get back into it. Another 45-man...

The dumbassery started early with an all-in pre-flop raise - called by Q/8. The raiser had A/Q and it held up. I hate that crap. Take down my first pot with A/8. Raise to $40, one caller (BB). River an ace as he misses a flush draw and I pick up $210. Drop a couple hundred when I flop 2 pair but lose to a higher 2-pair. Guy called my raise with J/8, flops a flush draw that ends up missing but turned a J to beat my A/5. All-in for $1200 with Q/Q, one caller - 8/8. He gets no help and I double-up to $2400, 12th of 22. $400 pot with A/Q and I'm up to $2800. Blinded down to $2200, I call an all-in that looks like an obvious bluff with A/J suited. Guy has A/Q. No help for me and I bust out in 18th place. Unlike the last A/J, I'm OK with this play. The guy had raised all-in the previous hand super-early and he's got a huge chip stack. Looked to be just throwing his weight around. Unfortunately, he wasn't :(

Tournament #105

Gonna give it another shot tonight. Why not?

Slow start but pick up A/3 suited in the SB right before the break. Flop comes Q/Q/J with 2 hearts, giving me 4 to a flush. Guy to my left bets $60 and I call (with another guy). Turn is nothing, he bets $80, I call again. River is a 5h, giving me my flush. I check and he throws in $960, second guy folds, I raise all-in, he calls. He's got K/Q for a set of queens. I double to $2960. Limped with K/10 along with 4 others. Flop was J/J/7. I tossed in another $60, one caller. Turn was a K, another $120, called. River was a Q. Threw in another $180, called. Dunno what he had, but my Ks were good. Up to $3300, 9th of 30. Took down a nice pot with A/J - nothing hit the board, tossed $400 at the river and got called. Other guy had Q/9, even less than me. Up to $3900. Gave $500 of it back on a busted straight draw. Won a small pot to get back to $3600, 6th of 23. Take the blinds in a walk and a small pot from the SB and I'm up to $3700. A/K suited, I raise to $450, get one caller. 2 hearts on the flop give me a nice flush draw. Other guy bets $450, I call. Turn gets me the flush, both of us check. River, I bet $750 and he calls. $3600 to me. Up to $5600, 6th of 18. Uncalled raise with A/K pushes me to $6000. A couple of blinds and a (thankfully, I'd have lost a ton of money) flush and I'm down to $4400. Still 8th of 14. Get a big chunk back when I pick up A/A and the guy in front of me raises to $500. I re-raise to $1000 and everybody folds. Was hoping he'd raise again so I could go all-in. A/K on the next hand and I'm back to $5700. Hanging around at about $5800, 4th of 11 now. Blinds jumped to $200/400, this should get us to the final table quickly. K/9 with a K on the flop moves me to $6100. A/7 with a 7 on the flop bumps me to $7200, 3rd of 10. Quickly blinded down to $5200 - man that was quick. Missed straight draw and I'm down to $4000 but make the final table. That was painful. Immediately pick up A/J suited and get raised and re-raise all-in. Other guy has A/Q :( I get a straight draw on the flop and another out on the turn but they go nowhere. Stupidly busted in 9th place. At least it wasn't a bad beat for once but I still let a really, really short stack cash ahead of me.

Tournament #104

Am frustrated, which is always a bad time to play, but am going to do it anyway. In the last 6 tourneys I have been beaten by (in order) K/J, 9/9, 6/10, K/Q, and 10/10 while holding (same order) A/K, A/A, A/J, A/Q, and K/K. Think about that. In 5 of my last 6 tourneys I've eliminated while holding 5 of the 7 best hands in all of hold 'em. And the best hand to beat me was 10/10. Gimme a break.

We've played 6 hands - me not playing a single one - and already a third of the field is gone. Folded A/8 to a bunch of all-ins - three guys ended up all-in - and ended up with what would have won the hand. Could have quadrupled but can't play A/8 like that. Folded K/6 in early position, flop was K/6/x. Sigh...right play, wrong outcome. Sitting on $1300, 19th of 21. Blinds still only $15/30. Raise to $60 with A/9, re-raised to $120. Flop comes 6/9/A, I bet $60, raised to $240, re-raise all-in. Other guy calls and he's got A/K. Turn is another 9 and I double up $2655, 9th of 17. A couple misses, like misreading a bluff, and I'm down to $1600, 12th of 16. All-in for $1400 with 8/8 on a board of 7/2/3, uncalled. moved up to $1850. All-in for $1850 with Q/Q, uncalled, up to $2000. All-in for $1900 with Q/Q, called by A/5. Flop is 6/6/6, turn 4, river 5. I double to $3900, 7th of 16. Blinded down to $2500, pick up a small pot with A/K, now at $2800, 9th of 11. A few more blinds and raises I'm pushed off of and I'm down to $1800, 10th of 10. All-in for $1600 with A/K, 2 callers. Flop has an A and I triple up to $4900, 6th of 10. Finally lose another guy and we're at the final table. A/9 in the BB, I simply check, 3 other players. Turn is an A putting 3 clubs on the board. I push all-in and get called by Q/4 of clubs. Made flush and I'm busted. 9th place. Misplay on my part, should have raised all-in pre-flop.

Card dead early, down to $1100. All-in for $1100 with K/K, uncalled, pick up $75. All-in for $1050 with 9/9, uncalled, move to $1150. All-in for $1100 with A/10, uncalled, move to $1200, 27th of 30. Blinded down to $955, all-in with K/K, called by 10/10 and J/J. Flop is Q/10/x. Busted in 25th place. This is definitely starting to look like my no-cash run - one bad beat after another after another. It'd be one thing if the guy with 10/10 had called me but he raised, then got re-raised, and I re-re-raised THAT. He *HAD* to know he was dealing with A/A or K/K and he called ANYWAY.

Haven't felt too good all day but feeling a little better now and ready to put last night's nightmare behind me, so let's go!

Just sucked out big-time on a guy. He'd pushed all-in multiple times, so I read him as bluffing. I picked up A/8 in early position and raised to $40, he re-raised me all-in. Figuring him for bluffing, I called. He turns over A/A and I'm hosed. Then the flop - 7/8/9. Q on the turn. 8 on the river! Horrible suckout, no two ways about it. I doubled to $2900. Missed a couple chances to win big pots by folding pre-flop mediocre hands that turned into something. Oh well. Down to 25 players, me still at about $2800, in the top 10. Took down a $500 pot with A/J on a board 8/2/4/8 with 3 clubs. Bet $250 on the turn, no callers. Up to $3100, 8th of 20. Dropped $800 chasing flush & straight draws while holding 2nd pair. Down to $1800, 12th of 18. Blinded down to $1600, but an uncalled all-in with K/Q pushes me back to $1900. Took down a $1000 pot with K/7 in the SB. Flop came 8/9/10 and I bet the flop and turn looking for my straight but it never came. Other guy had even less, though, and I won the pot. All-in for $1700 with A/Q, called by K/Q. Flop is K/7/5. Turn Q, river K. His full house kills me and I'm busted in 13th place. Once again, did nothing wrong, bad poker rewarded.

Why let those last 3 results bug me? Let's try again:

7 hands so far, haven't played a single one. But we've eliminated 9 people already! After 14 hands - and 15 eliminations - I finally played a hand. A/J. Me & 3 others, all unwilling to bet. Ended up splitting $360 with another guy who had A/J. Sitting on $1500, 19th of 30. Pick up a nice pot with K/4 in the BB. Flop is 5/3/K. I bet $100, called. Turn is nothing, another $100, another call. River is nothing, another $100, fold. I think the guy had 4 to a flush and missed. Up to $1900, 14th of 25. A/2 picks up a $1000 when an ace hits the flop and I get another guy to chase a gut shot straight draw. Up to $2300. Give back $400 with A/8 but smartly fold and avoid further damage as 2 guys go all-out with dueling 2 pairs. 3/4 in the BB nets me a $1200 pot with a 6/3/7 flop, a 3 on the turn, and a 7 on the river. Up to $2600, 14th of 22. My strategy of smaller pre-flop raises hurts me when my A/K raise doesn't push out Q/7 in the BB. He ends up hitting a full house on me and I'm back down to $2000. Should have considered either an all-in or a bigger raise. Missed flush draw costs me $300 and I'm down to $1600, 12th of 14. Looking for an all-in soon. 2 guys gone, we're down to 12. All-in for $1300 with A/J suited, called by 6/10. Flop is 7/J/9 so I'm way out in front. Turn is an 8 giving the guy a straight. Busted in 12th place. This mini-run is starting to look like my 20-tourney-no-cash run awhile back. Calling an all-in with 6/10 is just ridiculous. To have it pay off is utter garbage. That makes several terrible beats for me in the last few tourneys. Very frustrating but will stay positive!

Tournament #100

We've hit the century mark! Let's hope #100 is a lot better than #98 & #99...

Card-dead early, but picked up a $150 pot with 10/10 on a flop of 4/3/3. Bet $120 on the flop, uncalled. Dropped $300 with A/Q, then a Q/J/7 board hit - all diamonds. Other guy bet $270, I called. A 4th diamond hit on the river and suddenly his 5d was good. Great. Another suckout. Down to $1100. Pick up A/10 after the break, raise to $100, 2 callers. Flop comes A/A/Q. Guy to my right bets $50, I call. 2 on the turn, he bets $100, I raise all-in. River is a 9. He turns over A/4 and I double up to $2200. Immediately give $700 back with A/J with an all-in player and another guy. Other guy hits runner-runner K-K to hit a set (with K/2!) to top my pair of Aces. Down to $1400 and highly irritated. Same guy as sucked out before on me. Blinded down to $1300 and looking for an all-in. All-in for $1200 with A/7 suited, called by 10/10. Flop an ace but the guy turns a 10 and I'm busted. 20th place.

Back from the ballgame and errands, a little tired but rarin' to put last night's bad beat behind me...

Dropped $240 with 9/9 on a K/K/3/5 board. Called $40 pre-flop, then bet $80 on the flop and was called. Bet another $120 on the turn and got raised all-in. Couldn't be sure the guy didn't have a K so I folded. Live to fight another day. Another $100 on an all-in I can't call and then another $100 with A/Q, down to $1100. Pick up A/A, all-in for $1100, called by 2 guys - A/K and 9/9. Flop is 10/9/7 and I'm busted. 39th place. Well, that sucked. Terrible poker rewarded. Nothing to learn from this one, the best hand lost.

Tournament #98

Been about a week since my last tourney and I'm rarin' to go...

First few hands have been decent starters but big raises have pushed me out pre-flop. Kinda just hanging around at the moment waiting for something to happen. Finally pick up a pot with A/4 in the SB, 4 callers besides me. Flop is A/Q/Q, I bet $90, no callers. Lost some blinds, picked up a small $100 pot, not much going on, I'm at $1370, 24th of 29. Finally pick up a decent hand - A/Q - and Pokerstars decides to disconnect me in the middle of the hand. THANKS. Finally took down a decent pot - picked up 7/7 and limped for $100, 2 other players. Flop was 5/9/A, 2 clubs. Called $100. Turn was a blank. River another 5. Tossed in $300, uncalled. Up to $1700, 19th of 26. Quickly gave it all back on K/10 after a 10/6/4 flop with 2 diamonds. Bet $300 but folded when 2 guys went all-in behind me. Good fold for me - they both had made flushes. Down to $900, looking for all-in. All-in for $700 with K/J suited, 2 callers - 10/10 and A/10. Flop is K/J/4 - jackpot! Triple up to $2200, 9th of 18. A couple missteps and I drop back to $1400 but pick up an $800 pot with an uncalled all-in to get back to $2000, 9th of 14. All-in for $1900 with 10/10, uncalled. Up to $2200. All-in for $2200 with A/K, 1 caller - K/J. Flop is K/6/4 and I'm in great shape. Naturally, he rivers a J and I'm busted. 13th place. Not much you can do when your opponent hits a miracle suckout to bust you.

Tournament #97

Bad result, back on the horse!

Fold a bunch early, then pick up K/8 and limp for $30. Flop is A/8/A, so I toss in $90, one caller. Turn is a Q, river an 8, with bets each step. My full house beats the other guy's 2-pair and I pick up a $500 pot to get back to $1500. In the BB with A/9, I've got 2 limpers in front of me so raise to $90 (3xBB). Flop comes A/K/7, 2 clubs. I bet $120, get raised to $240, third guy folding. I re-re-raise the guy all-in figuring he's got no ace. He calls and turns over Q/10 of clubs for straight & flush draws. I dodge all the bullets, though, and bust him, moving up to $2400, 9th of 27. Take down a nice pot with 6/6 on a board of 4/4/2/8 and move up to $2800. A rash of eliminations later and we're down to 20, me in 8th with $3000. Pick up A/7 in the SB for $50 and call a raise to $200. Flop is Q/8/4, bet $200, called. Turn is an A, bet $200, called. River is a 7, bet another $200, no call. $1300 pot, me up to $3800. Drop $700 on an ill-timed bluff with A/5, representing a flush. Get called on the river by a guy with BOTTOM PAIR. Bad call on his part, even if he was right. That puts me at $2900, 11th of 16. In the SB for $100 with K/7, I limp, then call a raise to $400. Flop is A/K/10 and I push all-in. Got called. Guy has A/3. I get no help and bust out in 13th. Bad play on my part. No reason to go broke there. Really, really stupid.

Time for another 45-man...

Dropped $700 early playing K/Q on a K/5/6/3/J board. Other guy had 5/6 and had called a pre-flop raise with it. Didn't see that coming at all. Down to $830. Limped with A/5 and the board came 7/6/4. Threw in $60 and got raised to $180 and that was re-raised all-in. Wasn't willing to go all-in on a straight draw, so folded. Turn was a 3. Me & the all-in guy would have split the pot with straights. Argh. Now down to $500 thanks to blinds. All-in for $510 with A/9, 3 callers. No help, busted in 26th place.

Tournament #95

Rested and refreshed and raring to go - another 45-man!

Dropped $250 on A/7 with a 6/2/K/7/2 board - other guy had K/4. Misread him a bit on that. Another missed steal attempt - after having a raised called by a guy with 8/3 - and I'm down to $1000. Am getting nothing in the way of cards at all. All-in for $965 with A/Q suited, one caller - K/J. He gets no help, me up to $2030. Folded Q/10 to a pre-flop raise. Flop came J/10/6, 2 spades. Said to myself "9 of hearts here would be perfect for the hand I folded". And the 9h came! ARGH. Oh well, folding Q/10 to early raise is the right play. Pick up K/K and raise to $300 (3xBB), one caller. Flop came K/7/5, 2 spades. Both check. Turn is another 7, giving me a full house. River is a Q. He pushes all-in and, of course, I call. He's got nothing - 3/4 - so I bust him and move to $3300. 10th of 22. Can't believe how he played that hand - calling an early position raise with 3/4 and pushing all-in on a missed straight. Good grief. Gave back $600 with Q/Q when a K hit the flop. Lost about $450 in blinds when my cat puked and I had to go clean it up. Pushed all-in right before sitting out with A/9, however, and got no callers - winning $350 in the process. So came out about even on that exchange. Sitting on $2400, 14th of 17. 8/8 and A/7 go nowhere, down to $1900 as we hit a break. Now at $1700 with blinds of $100/200, looking for an all-in. I've got A/K, so here we go! One caller - A/K also. We split as the other 2 aces hit the board. Down to $1400, I pick up A/A and am all-in. No callers :( Up to $1875. All-in for $1200 with A/10 suited, one caller. He's got A/6, gets no help, me up to $2300, 10th of 12. All-in for $1300 with 9/9, 2 callers - 7/7 & Q/4. Neither one gets any help, I triple up to $4500 and make the final table! Drop a couple blinds to go to $3800 but we lose a player and are down to 8. I'm out of the blinds, good shot at making it into the $$$. With $3600, I make a mistake and limp for $600 with A/9 instead of pushing all-in. Flop is a miss and I'm forced to fold to an $1800 post-flop bet. Comes back around to me and I've got K/Q in the BB, 1 other player. Flop is Q/10/x, other guy bets $600, I raise all-in, get called. He's got Q/9. He gets no help, I double to $6100. One guy busted and we're into the money! Big stack hits runner-runner for a flush and knocks out a player, down to 6. All-in for $4500 with 8/8, one caller - K/7. He gets no help, I double to $10500. Tilting, he goes all-in pre-flop with 7/7 for $16000 and gets called by the chip leader with A/K. An ace hits and we're down to 5! I'm actually in 2nd with just under $9000. Steal a set of blinds with 7/3, back to $10000. Folded 10/10 to a big raise that got re-raised all-in. Would have won that pot and gone over $20000. Big mistake. One guy got busted on that hand, down to 4. Another guy gone with A/Q vs A/K, down to 3! All-in for $9500 with 9/9, called by A/Q. He gets no help, me to $19000! Bust him on the next hand, up to $20000, heads-up! Pick up 5/6 in the BB, flop comes 5/6/7. I bet $2400, raised to $6400, push all-in and get called. He's got 8/9. No help on turn or river, so I'm busted. 2nd place, my 5th top 2 finish in the last 23 tourneys, very pleased with the outcome!

Tournament #94

Still time for one more tonight!

First hand I pick up A/J and raise to $60 but get a re-raise (and a caller) at $200, so I fold. Naturally I would have hit a set of Js on the river and won a big pot. Winner of the pot had A/Q for a pair of Qs so, even though I'd have won, I made the right play. Raised to $120 (6xBB) with A/K and got one caller. Flop came A/Q/7 so I bet $620, enough to put the guy all-in. He stupidly called me - with 3/3. Horrible play. So he's gone and I'm up to $2100. A/K for the third time in 4 hands and I stupidly call an all-in re-re-raise. Of course the guy has A/A. Flop is 2/3/4 to give me some hope of a split but it doesn't come. I'm down to $5. Hung around a few more hands but busted in 32nd. Horrible play on my part, no one to blame for this one but myself.

Tournament #93

Right back on the horse with another 45-man tourney...

Folded about half a dozen hands, then picked up A/J in the SB. Raised to 3xBB, got 4 callers. Flop was A/J/8, bet $300, one caller. Turn was another 8, bet $600, no call. Up to $2000. Just saw some horrible poker rewarded. I've got 10/10, raise to $60 after 4 guys had limped for $30. Next guy raised to $150 and got 4 callers, me folding. Flop comes Q/7/5. First guy all-in for $1000, next guy all-in for $1070, next guy calls, and fourth guy calls. Turn is a 6. River is a 9. First guy had Q/5. Second had K/Q. Third had 8/5. Forget the fourth. 8/5 wins with a straight. Think about that - he called with 8/5, then called a re-re-raise with 8/5 pre-flop. Then, on the flop, he calls TWO all-ins with bottom pair. And sucks out a straight with runner-runner. That's just crap, no two ways about it. I'm just glad I got out of the hand. Lots of going-nowhere hands and I'm down to $1275. Just card-dead. Had A/10 and called a $300 bet with that but that's it. All-in for $1050 with A/6 and get one caller - also A/6. Neither of us flushes, so we split. Very next hand same guy raises me all-in and I call with K/9. He's got 4/4. Flop is 10/J/J giving me all kinds of outs - but none come. Busted in 20th place. Same deal as last tourney - absolutely no cards whatsoever.

Tournament #92

Hard day working in the yard, time for some poker!

Folded a couple weak aces early but pick up K/10 in the BB. Flop is K/2/5 with 2 diamonds (I have Kd). Turn is a 2, river a 9. I'm betting $80 every step, getting one caller. He raises me to $320 on the river - I've got him pegged as thinking I've missed a flush draw - and I call. He's got J/5 and my gut was right. $1000 pot takes me to $2000. Several quiet folds, a small $120 pot, and I'm still at $2000. A/Q goes nowhere, dropping me to $1800. Another A/Q goes nowhere and now I'm at $1500, 18th of 26. Folded K/7 to a small raise - naturally that would have been 2-pair and a nice pot. Awesome. I'm now at $1250 and looking for an all-in with blinds at $50/100. All-in for $1175 with A/8, uncalled. $525 pot so I'm now at $1550, 14th of 15. All-in for $1300 with A/5, one caller - A/K. He turns a K and I'm busted in 14th place. Not much I could do in this tourney - never got anything I could work with other than two A/Qs that went nowhere.

Tournament #91

Don't like that last result, it's still early, so let's go again!

Quiet start but take down $360 with 9/9 on a 7/7/4/4 board. Sitting on $1700, 14th of 36. Took down a nice pot with K/8 in the BB, moved up to $1900. Up to $2000 with A/Q then dropped to $1000 with A/8 when the other turned a flush. Very next hand, I double back to $2000 with A/10 that turns into a straight, 14th of 19. Dropped $700 on A/K bluffing at a garbage flop. Dumb play. Down to $1300. All-in for $1000 with A/7, called by 8/5. He gets no help, I move to $2200, 11th of 17, just in time for the blinds to go up to $100/200. Folded A/4 pre-flop instead of pushing all-in, would have won the pot with 2-pair if I'd even been called. Dang, that was a misplay. Next hand I folded 7/5 (of course) and the flop comes 8/4/6 (of course). We're down to 10, me in 9th. All-in for $1665 with J/J, no callers, move to $2065 and make the final table! Limped for $200 with A/9 off, 4 other players. Flop was 3/6/3, no bets. Turn is a 9, I push all-in, no callers. Up to $3000. Big-ish stack gone, down to 8. Bad beat has 7/7 taking out K/K and we're in the money! All-in for $1200 with A/6, no callers, but double up on blinds to $2400. J/2 in the BB with a 2 on the turn pushes me to $3200. All-in for $1500 with A/J, 1 caller, A/8. He gets no help, I'm bumped to $4000. Limped for $800 with A/6, 2 others. Flop is 2/4/6, so I push all-in, take down a $2700 pot, bump up to $5000, 5th of 7. All-in for $4900 with A/Q, 2 callers plus a $2400 bet that got folded. A/J and A/8 are my opponents and they get no help - I'm up to $14000! Busted one guy, so we're down to 6, me in 2nd. Blinded down to $7200. After seemingly a million hands with 6 players, we finally lose one, down to 5. Another gone, down to 5, me at $4700. In the BB with Q/6, I'm raised all-in. It's only $1000 more so I call. Other guy has A/10. Flop is A/K/Q. Turn is a 6 so I'm looking good. River is an ace giving him a better 2-pair. Busted in 4th.

That tourney was weird - players were sooooo incredibly tight after we got down to 6. Most minimum raises went uncalled. Problem is, I had such horrible cards once I got to $14000, I couldn't even do that. Played well, but really would have liked a better outcome after getting to $14000. Still, the night was a profitable one and that's always good.

The weekend is here and I'm ready to play some poker, so let's get to it!

Card dead to start, haven't seen a single flop yet in 9 hands. Best hand so far was K/10 and I got raised out of that one. First flop and I take down a $400 pot with 7/8 on a 8/9/J flop. Another $400 pot with J/10 and I'm up to almost $1800, 18th of 34. Have played only 3 hands so far, 2 of those in the BB. Hung around at about $1600, before picking up A/7. Raise to 2xBB, 2 callers. Flop comes 10/A/7. I push in another $300 (2xBB), 2 callers. Turn is a K, I toss in $600, 2 callers. River is nothing, all-in, 2 callers. One guy has A/4 or something and the other has Q/J for a straight. Awesome, he sucked out a gutshot on the turn. Bad poker rewarded. Busted in 17th place.

Reflection time...

OK, so the results of late have been a lot better - 7 cashes in last 17 tournaments, with an 8th place bad beat and a Pokerstars screwjob in there. 41% cashes after going 22 straight tournaments without a cash prior to that. I've raised my cashing % from 19% of the time to 24% and my average return on investment to 80%. So all the indicators are very positive. Clearly my play, and my results have improved. So what's different? Well, a few things.

First, quite frankly, my luck has improved. As any reader of the cash-less stretch can attest, I was running into one ridiculously lucky bad beat after another. That has stopped. Guys aren't hitting quads to beat my straights anymore.

Second, contradictory as it sounds, I'm raising smaller amounts. My most common raise now is 2xBB. I don't seem to get any more callers than before, my initial outlay is smaller, and my risk is lowered.

Finally, and most importantly, I'm raising all-in sooner. I start actively looking for all-ins when I get down to 10xBB. This has helped a lot. I'm getting a lot more uncalled all-ins and that allows me to rebuild my stack.

So a couple tactical adjustments, some luck, and the results have improved significantly. Let's hope it stays that way!

Tournament #89

OK, another shot after the super-fast exit in the last one.

Nice start, picking up A/Q in the BB with 2 callers. Flop is Q/7/7 with 2 spades. A third never comes, though, and the guy chasing the flush helps me win an $800 pot, pushing me to $1900 right away. Card dead ever since, blinded down to $1790. They're dropping like flies and we're down to 19 players - and I still have won a hand since the very first. 3/3 in the BB, 4 callers. Flop is Q/3/5, so I toss in $200, raised to $400, I re-raise all-in for $1500 - called. Guy has Q/9. Turn is a 9, river another 5, double up to $3400. Promptly drop $600 of that on A/K suited that goes nowhere, down to $2800, 9th of 18. Called an all-in of $700 with K/K, other guy had 8/7. Flop had an 8 but he got no more help, so home he went, me up to $3400, 6th of 15. Uncalled raises with A/A and Q/Q and I'm up to $3800. K/Q small pushes me to $4400. A/10 helps me bust a short stack and pushes me to $5200. Flop an ace-high flush with A/Q and win a $2700 pot to go to $6900, 4th of 12. Small pot with Q/4 and I'm up to $7800, 4th of 11. Flop 2-pair with K/7, win $1300 pot, move to $8200. A couple misses, including a bad fold of K/4, and I'm down to $7000 but we're at the final table, me in 5th! Lost someone on the first hand, down to 8. Back in a positive direction after several blinds gone with A/7 suited that turned into a pair. At $7400 now, still 5th of 8. Short stack gone, we're in the money! Another guy gone, down to 6. Blinded down to $4700, just hanging around now as blinds are $300/600. Thanks to a couple of dumb bluffs by big stacks, the short guys have now doubled and I'm nearly last. All-in for $4600 with Q/Q, called by shorter stack. He's got A/K suited. Flop is 3/10/10. Turn is Q - full house baby! I'm up to $9100, he's gone. 5 guys left. Another guy gone on a horrible bluff, down to 4. Sitting on $6200 after a couple rounds of blinds, just looking for an all-in now, but 7/3, 7/2, and 9/7 ain't cutting it. 2 rounds of blinds, down to $3400. Steal a pot with a bluff, move to $3800. All-in for $3800 with A/Q, uncalled, move to $5800. Another $2700 pot with 4/3 on a flop of A/A/4 and I'm up to $7200. Short stack gone with A/K, down to 3! Huge #2 stack goes all-in with 2 pair vs a straight and gets busted. We're heads-up!!! Managed to get from $2000 up to $8000 at one point but just never got quite enough cards to make it competitive. Still, 2nd place after being short for a looong time is just fine by me. The evening ended up a profitable one, so that's even better.

Didn't like the end of that last one so right back at it with another 45-player tourney.

A/K, raise to 3xBB, 3 callers. Flop is K/4/3, two spades. One guy bets $180, 2 callers, I raise all-in. ALL THREE GUYS call. The $180 bet guy has 3/5 of HEARTS, first caller has A/10, second one has Q/7 spades. Naturally the turn is a spade and I'm busted. 41st place. That was crap. Doodoo poker rewarded.

Tournament #87

A few days off and I'm ready to get back on the horse. Let's go!

Outkicked on a pair of 10s early, dropping $140, down to $1350. Dropped half my stack on a missed ace-high flush draw that I bluffed at on the river. Very next hand I'm all-in for $645 with A/9 and get one caller - A/2. He gets no help and I double up back to $1335. Currently 25th of 30. Blinded down to $1000, all-in with J/J. No callers, up to $1100. All-in for $860 with A/J, no callers, up to $1000. Hanging around at $1100 ($75/150 blinds) just looking for all-in opportunities, 15th of 20. But 9/7, 9/3, and 7/4 ain't gonna get it done. Flop a pair of Ks to get to $1300. All-in for $1235 with A/10, no callers, up to $1500. All-in for $1235 with Q/Q, called by a guy with only $550. He's got A/3 and naturally rivers an ace. I'm down to $680. All-in with 9/10 after a 9/7/6 flop, called by A/10. Turn is an ace but the river...is an 8! Still alive for $750. All-in next hand with A/2, uncalled. Up to $1000. All-in with A/Q suited, one caller, A/J. He gets no help, I double up to $2400. Blinded down to $2000 now, 10th of 11. Blinded down to $1600, all-in with K/10, uncalled, back to $2000. 2 guys gone, I've made the final table (somehow)! Blinded down to $1300, but no longer in last thanks to A/K being beaten by A/7. And I'm out of the blinds for 7 hands so have some time. Short stack gone, down to 8. Dang, blinds just went to $300/600 meaning I won't last another round of blinds. All-in for $1200 with J/J. Flop is Q/9/5, still 2 callers. Turn is a J! River is an 8, I figure I'm good. One guy turns over 6/7?!?! WTF. They had called a big post-flop raise with a GUT SHOT STRAIGHT DRAW. Busted in 8th place. I deserved better than that.

Tournament #86

Still steamed over the way that last one ended. Getting screwed is always fun. Time for a better result!

Card dead early on, haven't seen a flop in the first 8 hands. Finally get something to work with on hand #13 - Q/Q. Raise to 4xBB pre-flop, one caller. Flop is 9/7/4, I bet $540 - enough to put the other guy all-in. He calls and turned over 8/7. He gets no more help and is busted. I move to $2000. 9/9 helps me bust another guy, move to $2200, 14th of 27. Feels like I've been in the blinds ever single hand of late - down to $1500. All-in for $1250 with A/Q, one caller. He's got A/6 and gets no help, doubling me up to $2700, 15th of 17. A/Q again, this time a small pot, pushing me to $3100. J/8 with an 8 on the flop wins me another small pot, now at $3600. A couple of lost blinds drop me to $3100. 10/4 in the BB nets me $800 with the flop comes 10/9/4, up to $3700. Call call-in with A/K and flop a K. Other guy has A/Q and four diamonds but nothing on the river. I more than double to $5300, 7th of 13. A couple of eliminations and we're at the final table, me in 6th with $5200. One guy immediately gone, down to 8. A/J with a 9/3/2 flop nets me $2000, up to $6500. Uncalled raise to $1200 (blinds $600/1200) with A/K and I'm up to $7500. Another guy gone, we're in the money! All in for $5600 with A/J, one caller, he's got 5/5. J on the flop and four diamonds on the board and I think I'm beaten by a flush - only my A is a diamond so I actually double up to $11000! I'm a moron, LOL. 9/9 with 9 on the flop nets me $10000, up to $17000. K/K on the next hand, uncalled raise. Up to $19000, chip leader by nearly $7000. Short-stack gone, down to 6, blinds already at $400/800. A/Q suited gets me guy coming along for the ride when I flop an ace. $15000 pot later, I'm at $25000. Drop $4000 with my Q/Q vs A/K when a K hits on the flop, down to $21000. Another guy gone, we're down to 5. Another gone on the next hand, down to 4. Steal a couple blinds, back to $23000. Call a $10000 all-in with A/Q and he's got K/Q. No help and he's gone, down to 3, me at $31000. We've got a guy who's only play is all-in. Everything else he folds. He's got $22000 though, so he wins a lot of blinds. I don't mind playing that - it makes decisions easy. Drop $9000 calling an all-in with A/7 suited. Guy has 3/3 and flops a 3. Down to $21000. Suddenly, I'm the short guy at $18500. All-in guy is gone when his A/Q is beaten by 10/10. And we're heads-up! All-in for $8500 with A/2 vs A/9 and flop a pair of 2s. Still way down - $52K vs $15K. All-in with Q/5 after a 5 on the flop. Other guy has A/K and flush draw, turns a K but I river a Q to double up! Now at $27000. A couple of 2-pair hands and I'm up to $44000. Another pair and I'm up to $54000. Now up to $62000 vs $5000. Had him out the door with J/10 vs 8/5 but he rivered a 5 and now he's up to $12000. Now we're back to 63 vs 4. Raise him all-in with Q/10 suited and he calls with K/7. Flop was J/5/K with 2 hearts for me. I turn the flush and he's gone - I win! Another nice, long tournament vs a very good opponent. First place!

Tournament #85

Still feeling good from last night so let's give it another shot...

Slow start, picked up one pot by throwing a small bet at a flush draw, but nothing else. Lots of 7/3, 5/3 starters so far. A couple blinds and an A/10 that I (correctly) folded to an all-in has me down to $1200. Unbelievable run of bad cards here. Have seen 2 aces the entire tourney, down under $1000 with blinds at $50/100. All-in for $990 with Q/Q, 2 callers. 8/9/3 on the flop with 2 clubs. One guy goes all-in and gets called. A/K and A/5 of clubs turned over. Nothing hits though and I triple up to $3100! A/10, A/8, and J/J all net me small pots when I hammer the flops and I'm up to $3800. Limp with Q/J, me & 2 others. Flop is Q/7/J - jackpot! $300 on the flop, 2 callers. Blank on the turn, bet $900, 1 caller. Blank on the river, another $900, another call, other guy mucks, I win $5000. Up to $6500, 3rd of 21. Misread an all-in as a bluff, dropped $2000 when my pair of 9s fell to a set of 3s, down to $4300, no big deal. Several players gone, I'm now 8th of 15 with $4000. Drop $1100 when my A/K is beaten by Q/J and I'm down to $2500, 9th of 12. Uncalled all-in with A/K suited pushes me back to $3000. Uncalled big bet with Q/Q and I'm up to $3800. Blinds quickly knock me back to $3100. And THANK YOU POKERSTARS. I go to check the "fold" box but it quickly switched to the huge call button - with a $1000 raise in front of me. Half my chips in the pot with 3/3, so I pushed on the flop and got called by A/A. Busted in 11th place. That pisses me off. I basically got screwed out of the tournament. Awesome.

Tournament #84

Alright, let's try this again:

J/J on the first hand, do I call someone's all-in? Nah...good thing, too - the guy rivered an ace to make a pair. Dropped $200 on a full house - me with 9s full of Js, him with 9s full of Aces. Down to $600 after multiple lost blinds and losing $300 to a rivered full house. Absolutely card dead in this one - best hand was A/7 and folded that to an all-in. Naturally, I would have won that hand and tripled up. Awesome. All-in for $500 with A/2 and end up splitting the pot vs A/7. Up to $600. Win a walk and an uncalled all-in and I'm ALL THE WAY up to $800. Give it right back with a coupe of blinds - 2/3 and 10/4. Moved to a new table - right into the blinds. THANKS. In the BB with 9/10, I push all-in after a flop of 7/8/2. The J hits on the river and I'm up to $2200! Uncalled all-in with A/7 pushes me to $2400. In the BB with K/5, the flop comes A/K/5. I push all-in for $2200 and get 2 callers! Turn and river don't help them any further and my 2-pair are good! Up to $7300, 4th of 15. Take down $2000 with K/Q when I river a queen and I'm up to $8000. A couple blinds and a missed call of a small all-in ($500) and I'm down to $7000, 5th of 10. One more gone and now we're at the final table, me in 5th with $6400. Two big stacks go at it and one gets busted, down to 8 players. Short stack gone too, down to the 7 - we're in the money! Hard to believe I made it here at being all the way down to $500. A/K twice wins me some nice pots and now I'm at $9000. Doubled up with an ace-high flush to $19000! Then promptly mistakenly fold J/J and (would have) flopped a full house. Yeah, that was awesome. WTF. Short stack gone, down to 6. Another short one gone, down to 5. Short stack gone, down to 4, me in last with $11000. Drop $3000 when my 7/7 goes nowhere but manage to move up on the same hand, now 3rd with $8000. Former chip leader busted, down to 3! All-in but uncalled with A/J. A/5 gets me a pair of 5s and a pot of $5700, now at $10000. 8/9 gets me $4700 to push me to $11600, blinds at $600/1200. K/Q in the BB wins me $3800, up to $14000. The two big stacks go all-in head-to-head but end up splitting when the board pairs :( Uncalled all-in with A/J pushes me to $15000. Small pot, now at $16000. Uncalled all-in with KK, up to $17000. Promptly drop $2400 when K/J goes nowhere, down to $14000. River a set of 7s, up to $22000. Pair of kings and I'm up to $26000. $29000 after stealing some blinds, nearly chip lead. $30000 and chip lead after a pair of 3s. Short stack gone, we're heads-up! Chip lead after several small pots and an uncalled all-in. Double up to $50K when 2 pair hit the board on my A/2 making the other guy's 5/5 no good. Had the guy on the ropes, all-in, him with 4/3 vs my A/5 but he turned a 4. And now his 5/5 beats my all-in A/10 and I'm down to $13000. Fought my way back to $30000. Double up to $50K again with 6/6 vs 4/4. Had the guy out the door again with 2-pair but he rivered a straight and we're back to even. Blinds now at $2000/4000! Now up to $55000, trying to put this guy away! All-in with 2/2 and he calls me with K/Q. The deuces hold up, he's busted and I WIN! From $500 with like 35 players left to winning! That was AWESOME. We must have played 100 hands in heads-up, total roller coaster. Me out the door, sucking out when the board 2-paired. Him out the door twice, sucking out a straight or whatever. Has to be the longest tournament I've ever played. Great stuff!

2 wins and 3 other cashes in my last 12 tourneys. The bankroll is up to a new record, over $62 for the first time!

OK, let's try this again - another 45-man tourney!

Not even sure why I played this tourney. Got frustrated early, played a hand by mistake, and ended up pushing all-in after turning a pair of kings. Got called by Aces and busted in 39th place. What a waste.

Tournament #82

OK, fully rested, let's try again!

In the SB with 3/2 off, I limp. Flop is 3/10/2. Bet $20, called. Turn is a Jd, bet $80, called. River is a Kd, bet $80, called again. 4 diamonds on the board, am a bit nervous, but my 2 pair is good, pick up $400. $1700, 12th of 39. Holding steady at $1700 after a couple blinds and small pots, 14th of 38. Called 2 all-ins with A/K suited. The other guys turned over A/Q and 9/9. Flop had a K and I got from $1650 to $4400 while busting 2 guys, 3rd of 31. Woohoo! Lost a big pot when a guy chasing a gut shot straight draw managed to pick up runner-runner diamonds to break my set of 10s. Very next hand, I'm out-kicked with a pair of 10s and now I'm down to $1700. Uncalled all-in for $1500 with J/J pushes me to $2000, 16th of 23. All-in post-flop with A/9 after a 9/4/3 flop - uncalled. Up to $2400. Call an all-in of $1200 with A/J suited, other guy has A/6 suited. He neither pairs nor flushes so I bust him and move to $3900, 6th of 22. Drop $1000 when my J-high flush is beaten by an A-high. Down to $2100, 9th of 19. All-in for $1700 with K/K, one caller. Naturally he's got A/A. Busted in 19th place.

Tournament #81

That 50-man was fun but a little too bingo-ish for my taste, so back to the normal 45-man, $0.25 for this tourney.

Slow start with a couple missed calls dropping me to $1300. Still early though with blinds at $10/20. Finally win a pot with A/Q when I flop another Q. $600 pot pushes me to $1600, 18th of 28. 18 hands played, only seen 2 flops total. Dropped $1000 on a missed flush draw, down to $600. That was a tired play. Kinda wondered if I shouldn't have played this tourney, that hand may have answered the question. All-in for $500 with A/J, one caller. Flop an ace, double up to $1200. Small pot with A/9 pushes me to $1500, 17th of 23. All-in for $1300 with A/10, one caller - with A/K. And the K comes into play as we both have 2 pair. Argh. Busted in 22nd place. Shouldn't have played - too tired.

Tournament #80

Decided to try something a little different - a 50-man tourney for $1.10 instead of the usual 45-man $0.25 tournament. Same blind levels and chip stack as the others, but blinds go up twice as fast. Should be fun!

First thing I notice is that, because there's 50 players, there's 10 guys at each table instead of 9. This means my seat is shifted visually and it's a little off-putting at first. Second thing I notice is that the pace of play is slower in that no one is all-in right away.

First pot I take down is a nice one. 9/9, I raise to $60, 3 callers. Flop is Q/9/10. After I bet $300 and get a couple callers, I say to myself "a 10 would be nice, but a 9 would be better". Turn is a 9 - quads, baby! Checks all around. River is a deuce, I push in $300, get called. $1800 for me, up to $2600. Holding me own around $2500 as the blinds shoot up. Very quick - 3 to 4 hands per level, tops. Took down a $1400 pot with A/10 when an ace hit on the flop. Pushed all-in, no call. Up to $3300, 13th of 21. Had a chance to win a big pot go awry - A/3, flop is 8/3/3. Bet $300, called. Turn is a Q, push all-in. Other guy has 3/2, so I'm way ahead so long as the board doesn't pair...which it did on the river. Cost me $1800 by having to split. Still have $3200, 12th of 20. We're down to 16, me in 7th with $3600. Blinds jumped to $200/400 with me in the SB with A/7. Want to push all-in but guy in front of me goes first, so I fold. All in for $3000 with K/Q suited, one caller - and he's got A/K. But I flop a Q and double up to $6800 - blinds and antes immediately take $650 of that. I push all-in with A/Q, no callers, win $1200 pot, just in time for the blinds to go up again. In the BB with A/10, I call an all-in and the guy turns over J/8. Bust him, move up to $11000, 2nd of 10. And now have K/K. Push all-in, called. Naturally the guy has A/A. I'm crippled down to $225. No way I play that any different at any point there. All-in with J/2, I turn a set - I'm golden! Noooo...somebody else has K/J. Busted in 10th place. Played really well this tourney just got really, really unlucky the last 2 hands. Same as last one.

FINISH: 10th place

Tournament #79

Bad effort and bad finish last time out. More focused and ready to play deep tonight, so let's go!

Dead early on, but pick up 5/5 and play it for $60 with 3 other guys. Flop is 5/7/3 - and they're betting into me. Bet, raise, me to $150, 3 callers. Turn is a 3 - FULL HOUSE, BABY! Another $150, another 3 callers. River is an ace. An all-in, and I raise all-in as well. 3 callers! The other guys have 9/9, 7/3, and A/6. I busted at least 2 players and picked up nearly $5000. Nice pot! Not much happening since, I've dropped to $4600, but still 4th of 28. Dropped $800 calling an all-in with A/8. Other guy turns over J/8. Flop naturally has J/8/4. Grrr. K/3 needs me a nice $2200 pot when I flop a pair and river a set. Up to $5100, chip leader! Just won a huge pot with A/8. Flop was A/A/6, checks all around. Turn is a K. Me betting $300, called. River is an 8 giving me a full house. I check, other guys bets $1500, I raise all-in, he calls and is busted. Me up to $10000, chip leader with double the #2 stack. 2 hands later, I'm #2 after somebody more than doubled to nearly $11000. Still, I like my spot :) K/Q nets me $4400 when I flop a pair of Ks, bet $450 into a $600 pot and get 1 guy who raises all-in. I quickly call and he turns over 7/7. He gets no help and I'm up to $12500, 1st of 16. J/J with a J on the turn nets me $1700 and I'm up over $13000. ARGH! A couple of big pre-flop bets forced me to fold A/4 and 10/9, both of which would have won me big pots. Down to $13000, 2nd of 11. 2 more guys gone and we're at the final table, me still 2nd with $13700. 1 player gone and a couple of blinds and I'm down to $13000. Another guy gone and we're into the money! Blinded down to $11000, but still 3rd, very comfortable. #2 chip guy just tilted away all his money for no reason - all-in multiple times with questionable hands. Another guy gone and we're down to 5. Bad fold and missed bluff and I'm down to $7000, 4th of 5. Could have busted a guy but wasn't willing risk 3/4 of my stack with a weak ace - turned out he had 2nd best. Another half my stack gone when I raise the short stack all-in and get called. My A/8 dominates his A/7 but he flops a 7 and I'm down to $4000. And now I'm busted. Raise all-in with A/4 and get called. Guy turns over 9/5 and says he called by mistake! Four face cards on the flop and turn and I'm doing ok but he rivers a 9 and busts me! WTF. I misplay one hand and I'm busted?!?! Good grief. 5th place. NOT HAPPY with this result at all. Huge favorite on my last two hands and I go broke.

Tournament #78

OK, been awhile with vacation and all, so let's do another 45-man!

Very slow start, have played one pot for $40 that went nowhere. Folded all other 8 hands. Just had 5/5 in the big blind and the flop comes J/5/5 - quads, baby! Unfortunately, it's just me and the small blind and he ain't betting. J on the turn, 8 on the river, still no action from the guy. I make a small bet and he folds, netting just a $60 pot. BOOOOO. Finally pick up a nice hand - A/J - and someone in front of me raises all-in. No thanks! 6/7 in the BB with a 5/8/3 flop nets me a $300 when I bet $200 and get no callers. Sitting at $1500, 17th of 27. Busted in 23rd place when my pair of kings is beaten by a rivered straight. Awesome.
