Tournament #77

Back from vacation, time for a 45-man tourney...

A/K in the BB so I raise to 3xBB. 4 callers. Flop is 3/5/A rainbow. Checks all around. Turn is a 10c, I bet $120, 2 callers. River is a 5c, so there's now 3 clubs on the board. I bet $210, 2 callers. My aces end up being good, so I pick $1400. Up to $2500, 10th of 30. Dang - just folded Q/10 to a raise and the flop came 10/Q/10. Think I could have made some money with that?!?! K/K in the SB, I raise to 4xBB and get 2 callers. Flop comes 6/2/K with 2 diamonds. Checks all around. A second heart on the turn makes me nervous so I throw in $300, 1 caller. River is a Jh, now three hearts on the board. I bet $300, other guy raises to $700. Sure he has the flush, I call anyway - he's got J/2 for 2 pair. My set is good! $2900 my way pushes me to $4000, 6th of 27. J/J goes nowhere thanks to ace on the flop and I'm down to $3700. Pick up A/K immediately and raise to 3xBB ($450), no callers, back to $3900. Took a couple pots with position raises/bluffs, and am up to $4200, 6th of 14. A couple more guys gone, we're down to 12, me at $3800. Down to $2500 after A/7 goes nowhere thanks to four diamonds on the flop & turn, 10th of 12. 2 guys busted on the same hand so we're down to 10, me in last with $2500. A couple blinds and now I'm at $1800 and looking for an all-in. A/5, I'm all-in - no callers. Back to $2500 and now we're at the final table! Big stack gone when his A/5 gets beaten by Q/J thanks to Q-Q on the turn/river. 8 players left. K/K and I'm all-in! 2 callers. Flop comes J/Q/7. Turn is a 5 and I'm feeling good. One guy folds, other player turns over A/Q - pair of Qs and a flush draw. Naturally he rivers a Q for a set and I'm busted. Awesome. Same guy that had the Q-Q miracle a couple hands earlier. 8th place, bubble boy. Hard to complain, I played really, really well.

FINISH: 8th place
PAYOUT: $0.00

Tournament #76

OK, another 45-man. Let's get 'er done!

A/9 early on with a failed bluff goes nowhere and I'm down to $1350. AA nets me $350, up to $1620. Flop a straight with A/10 suited that also included a royal flush draw! Player to my left bets all-in and I can't call fast enough. He's got a pair of queens and is basically drawing dead. Make a (non-royal) flush and he goes home. Up to $2550. Been real quiet ever since, dropping me to $2335 as I pick up no cards. Lots of guys busted around me though and we're down to 22 players. Q/4 in the BB unraised gets me a flop of 2/3/5. I bet $100, called. Turn is another 3, call $100 bet. River is another 5, call another $100 bet. Other guy has nothing - J/9, I outkick him. Up to $2800, 12th of 22. 10/10 with a garbage flop nets me $550, now up to $3100. We're down to 14 players now, me in 11th, not having played a hand since the 10/10. Blinds are $75/150 so I'm still in good shape. Pair of 8s snags me a $750 pot and pushes me up to $3400. A/Q and a BB hand go nowhere, pushing me down to $2700. A couple more blinds and I'm down to $2200. Blinds are $100/200 so I gotta look for an all-in here quickly. Uncalled all-in for $1900 with A/9 pushes me to $2300. Down to $1500, an uncalled all-in with A/10 pushes me back to $2100. Blinds go up to $200/400, so I re-raise all-in for $2000 on top of a guy's raise to $1600 while I'm in the BB. I've got K/J, he's got A/J so I'm way behind. Flop comes Q/10/9 - K-high straight for me! Double up to $4100. Uncalled all-in for $4100 with A/8 pushes me to $4800. KK in the SB and I raise all-in and get called. Other guy has Q/Q. My Ks hold up and he's crippled. Next hand, I've got A/10 in the BB, unraised. Turn a pair of 10s, bust the guy I just crippled and push my stack to $8300. We're to the final table! I'm 3rd of 9. A couple of blinds gone and I'm down to $7000, 4th of 8. Another guy gone and we're into the money! I'm still at $7000, solid position but blinds at $400/800. A/9 eliminated by J/J, down to 6. Blinds take me (quickly) down to $5400, but I pick up A/9 and raise all-in. Uncalled, back to $7500. All-in with QQ, one caller. He's got 8/8. The Qs hold up and I'm up to $13000! Another guy gone, down to 5, me 2nd. One more gone, down to 4. K/8 with a flop of K/K/9 helps me take down a pot of $11000, me up to $18000. Blinded down to short stack with $8600. All-in with A/5 vs 10/10. 5 on the flop but no other help. Busted in 4th place. Did about as well as I could have hoped after getting to $18000. Can't really do much with 6/2 hand after hand.

FINISH: 4th place
PAYOUT: $1.40
PROFIT: $1.15
BANKROLL: $61.22

Tournament #75

Time for another 45-man...

Card dead early on - 10 hands and I've seen one flop and that was because I was in the BB unraised. Folded right after the flop on that. Make that now 14 hands. Meanwhile, 10 people have been eliminated already. I'm still doing fine but would like to pick up a pot or two here. 20th hand, I'm in the BB again, this time with J/5. Unraised so I limp. flop is A/A/2. I toss in a bet of $100 (2xBB) and other guy folds. Woohoo, first pot! Half my stack gone when I river a set of Qs - only to be beaten by a flush. Ouch. Down to $645. Short stack all-in and call in front of me when I've got A/Q in the BB. I re-raise all-in and get called. Flop is 2/2/A and I more than double up to $1645. Limp with J/7 suited and the flop gives me open end straight and flush draws. I bet $300 (pot) and no callers. Up to $1760. Min-raise in early position with K/J goes uncalled and bumps me to $2000. Another spot pot, this time with a pair of 3s after the flop, and I'm up to $2300.

Got interrupted and had to sit out, finishing in 13th place.

FINISH: 13th place
PAYOUT: $0.00
PROFIT: -$0.25
BANKROLL: $60.07

Tournament #74

First tourney in a month...I can only imagine the rust I'll be fighting...

An early A/5 turns into a straight pushing to $1700. Next hand, I A/8 turns into a pair of 8s and I bump to $1850. Holding A/3, I rivered a 5th club to have an ace-high flush - and two other guys betting. Bet, raise, re-raise (by me) to $360, and another guy pushes all-in. I call (of course) and he's got king-high, so home he goes. I'm at $3150, 4th of 36. Holding 10/10, flop comes 8/9/Q, checks all around. Turn is nothing, so I bet $90, raised to $180, I call. River is a J, giving me a Q-high straight. I bet $90, get raised all-in and call. Other guy has Q/8 for 2-pair and I double-up to over $6000. Chip leader! Been quiet for a long time - we're down to 16 players but I've been stuck at $6000 so am now 5th. Fine by me. Just farted away $2000 chasing a flush while holding top pair against a guy holding trip 7s. Argh. Bad play. Uncalled all-in with 9/9 pushes me to $3300. Still way down in the standings. $300 of that quickly disappears thanks to the blinds ($100/200). Blinded down to $2500, I pick up A/K suited. All-in again goes uncalled, back to $3000, 10th of 12. A/6 suited wins me a small pot, up to $3500. Blinded down again but uncalled all-in with Q/Q pushes me back to $3500. Blinded down to $2700 but I've made the final table! One guy gone, we're down to 8. All-in for $1900 with A/8 suited, one caller. Other guy has K/10. Flop is K/9/4...but I river an ace to more than double to $4900!!!! Fold Q/J in the face of 2 big raises and the flop comes...10/J/J. Argh. Would have done really well with that hand. J/J are cracked and a guy gets busted. We're in the money! Now I'm all-in with A/K. Uncalled, back to $4800. A/5 with a 4/7/5 flop and I push all-in. No callers, $1800 pot, me back to $6000. Q/J with a Q/9/5 flop wins me a $1600 pot and I'm up to $6800. Another guy busted, we're down to 6. I'm in the BB for $800 and pick up AA! I get raised, so re-raise all-in. Other guy has 9/4 and it goes nowhere, me up to $10000, good for 2nd place, waaaaay behind the chip leader at $32K. Chip leader with 3/3 vs 5/5 and J/J rivers a miracle 3 and busts 2 guys! We're down to 4. In the BB with A/6, one guy limps but I raise all-in. He folds, and I'm up to $6400 (blinded down quickly with blinds at 600/1200). Uncalled all-in with 10/10 holds me at $6500. Turn a pair of 4s with Q/4 to bump myself to $9100. All-in with K/6, called by A/4. Flop gives me a pair but he hits runner-runner for a flush. Busted in 4th place. That felt good. Overcame a terrible mistake to cash, playing well overall. Could easily have hung on longer but was getting nowhere and wanted to make a move.

FINISH: 4th place
PAYOUT: $1.40
PROFIT: $1.15
BANKROLL: $60.32
